Racing Series 2015

NEWPORT, RI, USA, March 15, 2012 -- Following the success of the Transatlantic Race 2011 and its companion Atlantic Ocean Racing Series, the Royal Yacht Squadron and the New York Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Storm Trysail Club, announce the Transatlantic Race 2015 (TR 2015). The race will start in mid-May, 2015 from Newport, Rhode Island, the on-the-water home of the New York Yacht Club. The TR 2015 is scheduled to coincide with the 200th Anniversary of the Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS) in early June.

New this time will be two finish lines, allowing the race to be scored as two separate races. The first finish will be at Lizard Point in West Cornwall and will provide the fleet the opportunity to challenge the present record set by Rambler 100 in the TR 2011 of 6 days 22 hours 8 minutes 2 seconds. The second will be in the vicinity of Cowes and the Isle of Wight, the home of the RYS.

Once in Cowes, the fleet will have ample opportunity to celebrate and continue to race. In addition to notable social events, the RYS will be hosting a three-day regatta from June 4th through to June 6th in celebration of its 200th Anniversary.

The four organizing clubs announce as well the Atlantic Ocean Racing Series 2015 as a companion to the TR 2015 and modeled on the AORS 2011.
